Six Kenyan policemen remanded in Ethiopia

Six Kenyan policemen have been arrested and are remanded in an Ethiopian police station after trying to rescue their colleague who had trespassed into Ethiopian territory.

The six, among them a police constable and OCS, were arrested on October 23rd as they tried to rescue their friend, who had allegedly fished from the Ethiopian side of Lake Turkana.

Confirming the incident, Marsabit Police Commander Ben Kogo said they are in communication with their colleagues and are trying to secure their release.

“We are in constant communication to try and have our colleagues back in office,” said Mr Kogo.

The six are being held at Bubua Police Station in Ethiopia.

Early October, over 100 policemen from Ethiopia took a town next to Illeret Police Post hostage claiming they were hunting for members of the Oromo Liberation Front, whom they accused of allegedly murdering police officers in Ethiopia.
