Six passengers injured as suspected militants attack bus in Mandera

Six passengers were injured on Tuesday morning after suspected Al Shabaab militants sprayed a bus they were traveling in with bullets between Elwak and Kotulo area in Mandera County.

Mandera County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha said the injured suffered bullet wounds on their legs.

Of the six injured passengers, five were taken to Kotulo Sub-county hospital while one was admitted to Elwak Hospital.

The County Commissioner added that a contingent of police officers had been dispatched to comb the areas for suspected terrorists, urging PSV operators plying such routes to request for police escort.

A source at the Kotulo Sub-county Hospital where the injured were first taken said at least four people were in critical condition.

The bus christened Makkah left Mandera town at about 8am only to be attacked at noon. The attackers fled after the incident.
