Six people killed in grisly accident on Kericho-Kisumu road

Six people died after a grisly accident on the Kericho-Kisumu road, police said on Thursday.

The accident involved a saloon vehicle and a lorry at Complex area near Chepseon Trading Center.

According to a senior police officer, the two vehicles collided head on.

He revealed that the victims were members of one family, among them students who were being taken back to school.

The lorry was heading towards Kericho direction while the saloon was enroute to Nakuru.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has released a report on road carnage fatalities indicating a drop from 3,700 in 2017 to 3,156 last year.

Speaking on Thursday during a Press briefing, the IG lauded road users for cooperation with traffic officers last year especially during the festive season.

“We are grateful for the extra caution on the highways. It is important that all road users use the roads with great responsibility,” he said.

The police boss further cautioned cyclists to always wear protective gear and obey all traffic laws and regulations.

Pedestrians were reminded to be using footbridges and crossing roads wisely.
