Six people killed in Tana violence

Residents of Tana River County are now living in fear after six decomposed bodies of people said to have been killed in ethnic violence were recovered on Wednesday at Ahurara village.

According to the head of Red Cross in Tana River County Jared Bombe, the bodies that were recovered are of five men and one woman believed to hail from Marereni at the border between Kilifi and Tana River counties.

Bombe said that the recovery takes the death toll to eight as the clashes pitting two communities escalated affecting  a number of villages including Mto Kilifi, Ufuoni, Kasangani, Mto Tana, Sujirani, Mticharaka, Komeni, Bokani, Milimani, Midodoni, and Masolo.

He added that the search for more bodies is underway and are collaborating with local administration to ensure that the developing humanitarian crisis does not get out of hand.

Tension has been high in Tana River County over the past weeks after two communities clashed over grazing and farming fields.

This has seen hundreds of families flee the area despite a visible security presence sent to quell the fighting.
