Six Siaya ex-county officials deny corruption charges

Six former Siaya County officers have denied corruption charges and been freed on Sh.1million cash bail each.

They include former Interim County Secretary Kepher Marube who is currently the Murang’a Deputy County Commissioner; former chief officer for Governance Amos Onyango and former Internal Auditor Collins Owino.

Others include former head of Procurement Zakayo Ojuok, former Director of Supply Chain Management Tobias Oloo and Eng. Tom Mboya.

They are accused of malpractice in procurement and forgery that reportedly resulted in a loss of over Ksh 13.5 million two years ago.

On March 1, 2016, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission detectives raided Siaya County executive offices over fraud claims and confiscated a number of computer CPUs.

Among the offices that were raided included that of the then Interim County Secretary Kepher Marube, the Procurement Department and that of Finance.

The anti-graft officers also raided the county’s Health Department offices.
