Six students of Arundo Secondary School in Rongo, Migori County, on Saturday evening sustained minor injuries following a lightning strike at the institution.

Confirming the incident, area Assistant Chief Joseph Nyamanga said the six were in one of the classrooms as it was raining outside when lightning struck.

According to Mr. Nyamunga, the institution’s transformer was also destroyed in the process.

The administrator added that the victims, who include four Form Four students and two from Form Three, were rushed to Rongo sub-county hospital where they were treated and later discharged.

Mr. Nyamanga appealed to local leaders to help the school purchase lightning arresters so as to prevent any similar future incidents.
