Six suspected gangsters shot dead in Nairobi

Police in Nairobi on Thursday gunned down six suspected gangsters in two separate incidents.

Four of the six were shot dead near City Cabanas on Mombasa road during a fierce gunfight between the robbers and the police.

According to the head of Special Crimes Prevention Unit Noah Katumo, the unit in conjunction with Flying Squad has been trailing the four for over a month now and only caught up with them this morning.

Katumo added that the suspects were part of a criminal gang that was notorious for terrorizing residents of Kikuyu, Waithaka and Kiambu areas.

Two pistols and over 20 rounds of ammunition were recovered in the 3am shootout.

Hours later, two other suspected robbers were shot dead on Muringa road in Kilimani.

The robbers are reported to have stolen a mobile phone from a man on Muringa Road and were trying to get away on a motorbike before they hit a truck heading toward Ngong Road at the junction of Elgeyo Marakwet Road and Muringa Road before they were gunned down.

According to Kilimani OCPD Peter Kattam, police had connected the two to robbery incidents in the past.

Kattam further added that the two have been terrorizing people in Kilimani area, noting that they will continue being vigilant in dealing with such law offenders.

One pistol allegedly belonging to a licensed civilian was recovered together with 13 rounds of ammunition.

The OCPD is now calling on anyone who might have lost their pistol to come forth and claim it.
