Six suspects in fake gold saga to spend 3 more days in police custody

Six people who were arrested on Monday by Detectives from the Flying Squad unit over 50 kilograms of fake gold in Kilimani, Nairobi have been arraigned in court.

The four Rwandese nationals and two Kenyans will however spend three days in custody to allow police complete investigations.

“On April 15, 2019 Flying Squad Officers acting on information from the members of the public went to Lenana 51 Apartments along Lenana Road within Kilimani area and managed to arrest all the six suspects,” the court was told on Tuesday.

Grace Wairimu Machatha, Erasocs Katiku Josiah , Niyitegeka Sevelin, Dushimiriman Egie , Zilimwabagabu Jacrries and Ngagagura Emmanue are alleged to have been in possession of fake gold nuggets contrary to section 203 Mining Act 12 of 2016 Laws of Kenya.

According to the miscellaneous application presented before the court on Tuesday morning, the investigating officer intends to contact more witnesses who have probably been defrauded by the six suspects using the said fake gold nuggets.

The court was told that the six will lead the investigating team to apprehend other suspects who are still at large and are believed to be hiding within Nairobi and other towns.

The suspects are aged between 26 years and 64 years.
