Six things you need to know about voter registration

Six things you need to know about voter registration

  1. You can verify your voter registration details by sending your national ID number to 22464. The line charges Ksh. 10 and returns your name, date of registration, your polling station, your ward, constituency, and county.
  2. You can only change your polling station from your constituency headquarters. IEBC has stated that voters who participated in the 2013 General Election need not register again. However, voters willing no change their voting station can only do that from their IEBC constituency headquarters. This move by IEBC is meant to discourage unnecessary mass voter transfer.
  3. IEBC is targeting to enlist 6.1 million new voters out of 9.1 million Kenyans who are eligible to vote but have not registered in a month-long exercise that will culminate on 14th, February 2017.
  4. Immediately after the voter registration exercise IEBC will embark on voters register cleaning; to eliminate double registrations, inconsistencies in voters data, deregistering deceased voters and harmonizing voters register. The final comprehensive voters register, to be used in the August polls, will be published on June 17, 2017.
  5. This is the second and the final mass voter registration drive ahead of the August polls. IEBC conducted the first phase of mass voter registration between February 15 to March 15, 2016.
  6. The current IEBC Voters register, as at December 31, 2016, has 15.9 million registered voters.
