Slain NLC official Jennifer Wambua laid to rest
Jennifer Wambua, who was killed by unknown people and her body dumped at Ngong forest, has been laid to rest.
She was buried at her family farm in Katheka-Kai village, Machakos County on Wednesday.
Until her death, Mrs. Wambua was the Communications Officer at the National Lands Commissions (NLC).
The veteran journalist was eulogised as a selfless and dedicated civil servant as mourners called for a speedy investigation and prosecution of her killers.
The deceased was scheduled to testify in the Ksh. 122million government advertising agency case the same week that she met her death.
Autopsy results showed that she was strangled.
NLC Chairman Gershom Otachi urged the government to do everything possible to unravel the motive of the mysterious killing and bring the culprits to book.
“The commission will assist in the authorities to unravel this mysterious death so that the perpetrators of this criminal act can be arrested and arraigned of the perpetuators,” said Otachi.
Former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile urged the government to expedite investigations.
“We are challenging Director of criminal investigation (DCI) to give the case the weight it deserves, otherwise if this trend continues and DPP is not careful, we are going to discourage Kenyans from becoming state witnesses as Jenifer Wambua was,” he said.
Also present at the funeral were Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka, his Yatta counterpart Charles Kilonzo and former Cabinet Minister John Mutua Katuku.
“There are some deaths that happen and we accept but we can’t take this one. Jennifer was murdered because of greed and corruption, we know very well she was a State witness,” Mr. Kilonzo said.
He lamented that a number of murder cases have gone unresolved in Kenya.
” You can’t steal and you go ahead and kill someone and expect to get peace. Let us not be emotional and allow time for investigating agencies. Why was she not given witness protection? It is very painful,” he said.
Mrs. Wambua is survived by two children and her husband.
