Gov’t warns social media user masquerading as CS Nkaissery

The Ministry of Interior has warned Kenyans about individuals operating Facebook and Twitter accounts in the name of Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government Major Gen. (Rtd.) Joseph Nkaissery.

In a statement to the media, the Interior Ministry urged social media users to be extremely careful when dealing with comments and messages thought to be from the Interior Ministry CS.

“One such pseudo account on Facebook is offering purported scholarships and bursaries to university students and asking for mobilization fee. The truth of the matter is that there is NO such program being run by the CS,” read the statement in part.

In the letter, the Interior Ministry said that Cyber Crime units are investigating the scam, adding that the culprits will be brought to book.

“The Cabinet Secretary’s official and verified accounts are: @GenNkaisserry for Twitter while the CS’s Whatsapp number is 0719777719. Any communication emanating from other accounts should be treated with extreme suspicion and immediately reported to the authorities for appropriate action,” further read the statement.
