Somali Immigrants Nabbed In Garissa

The eleven, who were arrested on Thursday night by police on patrol, were being ferried from Dadaab to Garissa in a Toyota Probox.

Officers from the Rapid Deployment Unit who were on patrol along Fafi road were forced to shoot the speeding car’s tyres to intercept after the driver failed to stop.

According to Garissa Police boss Benjamin Ongombe, some occupants of the vehicle managed to flee leaving behind women and children.

The police are now investigating claims that the car belongs to a police officer attached to the region.

ETHIOPIAN ALIENS ARRESTED

Ongombe said that the car has been ferrying aliens along the Dadaab-Garissa route especially at night.

The incident comes only a few days after police on Monday arrested 101 aliens of Ethiopian nationality in Tasia estate, Nairobi.

The aliens, said to be on their way to South Africa, were arrested for being in the country illegally.

Three Kenyans identified as Mahmud Abdurahi Bule, Abdi Abubakar, Abdiwadud Abdullahi, were also arrested for illegally harboring the aliens.

More than Sh Ksh 10 million is illegally earned by human traffickers monthly by smuggling Ethiopian nationals across the Kenya–Ethiopia border with the prospect of sending them by road to South Africa.
