Someone wants my head vocal MP says after receiving threatening message
Laikipia North Member of Parliament, Mathew Lempurkel, on Thursday, July 20, claimed his life was in danger after allegedly receiving a threatening message on his mobile phone on Wednesday, July 19 night.
Addressing a presser in Maralal Town, Samburu County, Lempurkel said that he had received the message from a mobile number that had not been registered during his campaign tour of Maralal in company of NASA presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, and his running mate, Kalonzo Musyoka.
“I received a message from an unregistered number that the sender wants my head,” said Lempurkel.
The Legislator urged the government to provide him with security during the campaign period and even after elections since a chief had been killed and livestock stolen.
He noted that the government will be responsible if anything happened to him or his family claiming that the acting Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, seemed reluctant in handling the matter.
“I met the Minister for Interior Security yesterday and wanted to discuss the issue but he was very much reluctant,” said the MP.
The MP asked Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman, Wafula Chebukati, to intervene to ensure he gets security.
