Son of Nairobi tycoon shot dead

The son of a tycoon who owns Bobmill mattresses was Sunday morning shot dead at their home in Westlands, Nairobi, by alleged police officers.

Bunty Shah, 32, died in his home with eyewitnesses saying that masked men believed to be police raided the home of the Asian businessman in unclear circumstances at around 3 am and shot him in the chest in an ambush that lasted for about an hour.

Confirming the incident, Gigiri OCPD Vitalis Otieno said police were investigating the incident to unravel more details on the raid and motive of the shooting.

The number of those who entered the compound remains unknown, who they were and their mission is yet to be resolved. It is claimed the 32 year old was shot after he fired into the air, upon learning of the attack.

“Three prados, and a full armory car…they came in from the gate, broke in with force. Only one shot Bunty with a sniper rifle and they didn’t allow us to take him to hospital for 40 minutes,” said Harish Patel, a relative to the deceased.

Shah, a father of a four month old, is the Son of business tycoon Vipin Shah, who owns Bobmill mattresses factory.

He was pronounced dead upon arrival at MP Shah Hospital where he was rushed. The night guard was also injured in the attack and is nursing injuries at Kikuyu hospital.

Police have since distanced themselves with the incident, refuting claims that it could be officers from the special crimes department.
