Sonko condemns destructive anti-IEBC demos

Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko has condemned the destruction and looting of property on Wednesday during the anti-IEBC demonstration in the City.

In an official statement, the Nairobi County boss termed the demolitions as an act of “hooliganism” portrayed by some NASA supporters in the name of peaceful demonstrations.

This is after demonstrators taking part in the NASA-led protests against IEBC smashed cars, looted a restaurant and brought down a glass door of an enterprise at the Central Business District.

“Whereas it’s a constitutional right for every Kenyan citizen to picket, the looting and destruction of property, and even loss of innocent lives is abhorred by our constitution,” he said.

The governor further complained that the demonstrations have led to an economy clampdown in the CBD, especially in the collection of revenues.

“It’s high time Nairobians are spared of these demonstrations which have continued to impact negatively on our economy,” he said.

The politician has pleaded with NASA supporters to conduct peaceful demonstrations and allow Nairobians to go on with their lives.
