Sonko Files Contempt Charges Against CORD Leaders

The Senator wants the five, James Orengo, Johnstone Muthama, Otieno Kajwang, Elizabeth Ongoro and Reuben Ndolo jailed for contempt of court over the Saba Saba rally.

The application has been filed as urgent and will come up for mention on the 21st July 2014.

Justice Isaac Lenaola has said the five politicians should be served with a court order over the matter.

In the suit, the politicians are accused of uttering defamatory statements during the Saba Saba rally at Uhuru Park.

Sonko’s suit was filed by his lawyer Alphonce Mutinda.

Mutinda in the suit claims he would prove that the leaders went against the court order and uttered defamatory statements.

“The court order that was issued on the 4th of July was published in the local dailies and also advertised on TV,” Mutinda said.

“The five therefore in knowledge of the court order intentionally and willingly disobeyed all together,” he concluded.
