Sonko foots hospital bill for detained Migori woman who lost 4 kids in accident

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and Equity bank have paid hospital bills for a woman who lost four children in a freak accident on Friday last week in Kuria West sub county Migori County.

The woman and her daughter had been detained at Akidiva Hospital after failing to pay Sh36, 000 bill.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Margaret Mugusu confirmed that she received Sh35, 000 from Governor Sonko to pay the hospital bill.

The Nairobi governor has also pledged to provide four coffins for the slain kids, clear the mortuary bills and provide four hearses during the funeral.

“I was so saddened by the unfortunate incident. I will honour my pledges and give Sh100, 000 for funeral expenses,” said governor Sonko.

Mugusu said her daughter, Colleta Nchagwa, has been re-admitted at the same hospital.

Equity Bank’s Migori branch manager, Peter Akuoyo, who also visited the family at the hospital also issued another cheque for Sh35,000.

The hospital director, Richard Chacha, said another well wisher also paid part of the hospital bill and they will return the excess cash to the family.

The woman lost four children after a lorry ferrying sand on Mabera-Mtomurabu lost control and rammed into her house killing the four, aged between three and 12, on the spot.

The driver of the lorry fled soon after the accident.
