Nairobi Senator Gidion Mbuvi alias Mike Sonko says he will stick with Deputy President William Ruto in his 2022 presidential bid.

Addressing residents of Matuu in Machakos County on Friday, Senator Sonko said that he will support Ruto’s candidature by all means noting that he will also launch his bid after Ruto’s term.

“Recently in Kakamega, DP Ruto explained that he will stick with President Kenyatta in order to run for the top seat after his term ends. I would like to state that I will stand with Ruto so that at the end of his presidential term, I launch mine,” said Sonko.

He called for unity among political leaders while urging the youth not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to cause chaos.

Ruto further commended Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua’s decision to work with Jubilee to ensure development is realized in the county, calling on CORD co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka to follow suit.

“I would like to tell Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka that no leader has an issue with him and he is welcome to work with other leaders in the Ukambani region to help develop the area,” said Mutua.

Sonko’s utterances come just days after remarks by Kiambu Governor William Kabogo questioning Ruto’s presidential ambitions elicited sharp criticism from a section of Jubilee legislators.

Kabogo had on Wednesday stated that Ruto is not guaranteed the support of the entire Mt Kenya region in his 2022 bid.

The Governor, however, accused the media of misquoting him noting that his message was to encourage “his friend”, the Deputy President, to start putting in place a strategy to ensure he wins the race.

In a turn of events, Ruto’s allies-turned-foes also came to his defence saying he deserves to be the next President because he is an exemplary leader.

Though no other leader has expressed interest in the 2032 presidential election, several leaders including Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Meru Governor Peter Munya have said that they will rival Ruto in the 2022 presidential race.
