Sonko kicks off City clean up exercise

Governor elect, Mike Mbuvi Sonko, has launched a general cleaning exercise dubbed ‘Operation  Safisha Miji’  in Nairobi County, effective today (August 16), succeeding his campaign mantra to clean Nairobi of its mounding filth.

The governor, who is to be officially sworn in on August 21, 2017 at Uhuru Park, has regardless annexed his duties as the declared Governor by assuming administrative undertakings like overseeing his county coffers during the transition period and now cleaning the County.

The cleaning activation will take place across the County with removal of campaign posters, unblocking sewers, clearing mounds of garbage and adopting a responsible garbage disposal mechanism.

So far, the activation has set off in Gikomba and Muthurwa market, which are among the filthiest open air markets in the city.

To employ the programme, the incoming governor has dispatched at least 50 trucks to achieve a swift garbage collection and deposition.

“My Team together with City Council will give the city a fresh coat of paint, I promised to make Nairobi clean during my campaigns and we have started delivering,” said Sonko.
