Sonko, Mary Wambui Grilled by Anti Corruption Detectives

Sonko who arrived at EACC offices at around 5am is being grilled for allegedly influencing award of a Kenya Pipeline Company tender in which he and Energy Cabinet secretary Davis Chirchir were allegedly to pocket 1.35 billion shillings.

Sonko became the first elected leader to step aside to allow investigations into graft allegations leveled against him.

Sonko wrote to Senate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro requesting to be excused from Senate proceedings after he was named in the EACC report for allegedly influencing a Kenya Pipeline Company tender worth Ksh 46.14 billion.

Altering agriculture committee report

Speaker Ethuro granted the sixty day leave to the Nairobi Senator saying that it was a good gesture in the fight against corruption.

The letter by the Nairobi Senator read in part, “Pursuant to the report handed over to the joint sitting of Parliament by President Uhuru Kenyatta, it has emerged that my name is included among those to be probed by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission.”

Maara Member of Parliament Kareke Mbiuki who is also the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture vice chair is also being questioned by anti graft officers over claims of bribe taking by committee members to alter a report on the sugar crisis in the country.

Another committee member Mary Wambui arrived at Integrity Center at 8am and left two hours later after being quizzed on bribery allegations.
