Sonko ranked governor with highest coverage in Kenyan news: TIFA

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is the county leader to have received the most coverage in Kenyan news between October 2018 and June 2019, a report has revealed.

According to the Kenya Media Landscape Report, Sonko is top at 28 percent followed by Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu) with 14 percent.

Others are Migori Governor Okoth Obado (11 percent), Mombasa’s Hassan Joho (10 percent) and Kirinyaga’s Anne Waiguru (8 percent).

The Governor with least coverage is Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru) at 1 percent, reads the report from TIFA, a market research company.

President Uhuru Kenyatta emerged as the most mentioned personality in Kenyan news at 20 percent during the same period.

In second place is Deputy President William Ruto at 13 percent and opposition leader Raila Odinga at 8 percent.

The least mentioned personalities were former IG Joseph Boinnet, Migori Governor Okoth Obado, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho all at 1 percent.

When it comes to coverage of national politics, DP Ruto led with 27.88 percent followed by President Kenyatta at 20.76 percent and Raila at 18.04 percent.

Under the Corruption theme, President Kenyatta and his deputy Ruto followed closed with 17.43 percent and 13.13 percent respectively.

In third place was DPP Noordin Haji at 7 percent followed by Raila Odinga at 6.2 percent.

And in the Crime theme, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i was top with 27.88 percent, President Kenyatta at 9.62 percent and Obado at 8.36 percent.

Sports CS Amina Mohammed emerged as top under the Education theme due to her previous stint in that docket.

”CS Amina Mohammed’s mention under education is linked to release of national exams results, students placement and the new curriculum, ” the report reads.
