Sonko sues Kidero for defamation

Nairobi Senator Gideon Mbuvi alias Mike Sonko has sued Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero for defamation.

Sonko had in June given Kidero seven days to apologize for linking him to drugs or face a court action.

Kidero had accused Sonko of running a parallel government which he says is funded by proceeds from drug trafficking.

In a thinly veiled attack on Sonko, Kidero said the city was slowly turning into a drug hub ran by barons who had assumed leadership positions and were now providing public services to city residents.

Although Kidero did not mention Sonko by name, the Governor did not mince words as to who he meant.

“Any services given must be given within the confines and provisions of the law,” Kidero stated in reference to a drove of ‘charity’ activities undertaken by the Nairobi Senator through his Sonko Rescue Team.

The Governor noted that drug trafficking poses a serious danger to the future generation if the city is not weeded of barons.

The Senator has on many occasions exonerated himself from accusations of being involved in drug trafficking and instead accused the Governor of abetting corruption at City Hall.

“I was elected to serve the great people of Nairobi and I think the Governor should be serious and should concentrate in delivering services to the great people of Nairobi. He is failing in service delivery and should not divert issues,” Sonko said.

“I have never, I am not, and will never be a drug baron. Those peddling that cheap propaganda should produce the evidence or shut up. I can account for all my money. I buy and sell land and I can prove that anywhere,” added Sonko.
