Sonko takes a commanding lead against Kidero

If elections were to be held today, Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko would amass more than 50% of the votes, a new research poll by the Center for African Progress has revealed.

According to the latest research poll, Jubilee Party’s Mike Sonko enjoys a popularity rating of 53% with his closest competitor the incumbent ODM Governor, Dr. Evans Kidero, having an approval rating of 40%.

Independent candidates Peter Kenneth and Miguna Miguna came a distant third and fourth with 4% and 1% respectively.

The research firm, led by Lead Researcher Onchari Oyieyo, contacted 3,400 respondents, 200 from each of the 17 sub counties in Nairobi County.

The poll was conducted between 28th July to 1st August.

Senator Sonko has on numerous occasions accused Governor Kidero for failing the people of the city, as they have nothing to boast for since the advent of devolution in 2013.

He (the Senator) says that Kidero has among other things failed to improve health facilities, service delivery, contain the traffic jam menace and more so collection of garbage that is choking the city.

On the other hand Dr. Kidero has remained adamant that his administration has had to fight with strong cartels in the, while blaming the national Government for frustrating devolution.
