Sonko wants probe on Kidero over Ksh.3.2B meant for city roads

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has accused his predecessor Evans Kidero of misappropriating Ksh.3.2 billion meant for the construction of roads.

Speaking at an event to issue title deeds to Nairobi residents presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta, Sonko placed poor roads at the top of his list saying that things could have been better had the previous leadership not extorted the public coffers.

Sonko revealed that Ksh.3.2 billion which had been allocated in the 2016/2017 financial year towards construction of roads ended up being used to pay lawyers and was distributed to county officials.

“Some of the money was used to pay lawyers while the rest was distributed among some of the members of the previous county government,” said Governor Sonko.

The county boss commended the president on the steps taken towards the fight against corruption, and requested that once he is done with the maize and National Youth Service scandals, the president should look into the misappropriation of funds by the former county government.

“The Ksh.3.2 billion that was released by the government for roads was not used for that purpose by the previous Nairobi county government, he said. “I am then asking, Mr. President that you order a probe into the loss of that money.”

Sonko has been under fire over the running of the country’s Capital with many saying he has not delivered and should step aside.

In his defense, Sonko has said he is being fought by cartels and he has done a lot for Nairobi County.
