Sons kill father during brother’s burial

A somber mood has engulfed Soyisambu Village in Tongaren, Bungoma County after a man was stabbed to death by his sons during a funeral for another son.

According to neighbors who witnessed the incident, the deceased, who had separated from his wife – Eunice Wafula – was approached and told that his 13-year-old son who was living with his mother had died.

The sons, as per custom, wanted their brother buried in the father’s land but he refused, claiming that the boy had been taken by Eunice when they separated without his consent and was born out of wedlock.

A bitter exchange ensued between them leading to a fight that saw the two sons stabbing their father to death.

Eunice was, however, left in shock at the turn of events after she received the news as she was still at Naitiri Sub-District Hospital where the body of her deceased son lay.

Police are holding the two sons pending the completion of investigations into the incident.

The body of the father was taken to Kitale Referral Mortuary.
