Sort out issues affecting Kenyans, Alfred Keter tells Jubilee Party

Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter has called on the Jubilee Party to focus on sorting out issues affecting Kenyans instead of focusing on the next elections.

Speaking in Chepterit on Monday, Keter dismissed claims that the newly formed Jubilee Party will unite Kenyans saying unity cannot be achieved if issues affecting Kenyans are still in existence.

He expressed his opposition to the disbandment of United Republican Party (URP) saying he will stick with the party despite efforts of create a merger with The National Alliance (TNA) to form Jubilee Party.

The legislator said he does not fear intimidation from his Jubilee counterparts unless issues touching the common mwananchi are addressed.

Other guests present during the ceremony were Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter, Nandi Women Representatives Zipporah Kering, Mosop MP Stephen Bitok, Chesumei MP Elijah Lagat, Tinderet MP Julius Melly and Aldai MP Cornelly Serem.

The party, launched in December has received backing from President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto.

The party, which will be officially launched in March 2016, brings together TNA, URP and other affiliated parties under the Jubilee Coalition.

In their address after the party’s first National Governing Council meeting at State House in Nairobi early December, President Kenyatta said the new party is aimed at uniting the Nation and all Kenyans and curing past politics of division and ethnic based mobilisation.

Speaking in Eldoret last week, Ruto called on the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) to follow suit and merge its affiliate parties to form one party that will unite Kenyans beyond boundary and regional lines.

The party’s co-chairs, Kiaritu Murungi and Dr Noah Wekesa, had stated that they were ready to face the country’s politics with renewed resolve and vigor in order to change the political history of the nation.

The meeting brought together Jubilee governors, deputy governors, and Members of Parliament, senators, MCAs, speakers and the party’s majority leaders.
