Sossion accuses CS Matiangi of mishandling education reforms
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General, Wilson Sossion, on Thursday, March 2 criticized Education Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i, over reforms in the education sector.
Speaking in Bomet County during the signing of an MOU between formerly employed 1,000 ECD teachers and the County Government of Bomet, Sossion asked Matiang’i to stop handling education issues single-handedly by hurriedly forcing the implementation of the new education curriculum without making proper consultations with all stakeholders.
“You cannot transform a curriculum overnight without involving all stakeholders,” argued Sossion.
At the same time, he castigated the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and Matiang’i over the recent ‘early retirement’ of the Alliance Boys High School Principal, Mr David Kariuki, accusing TSC for orchestrating the move.
Sossion said that he has evidence to prove that the Principal did not retire voluntarily, but was forced out of service over allegations of bullying in the school.
Sossion further accused Matiang’i of colluding with TSC in victimizing the Principal over allegations of bullying and torture in the institution adding that the allegations were inaccurate, unfounded and was only stage-managed to force the exit of the Principal from the school.
He reiterated that KNUT will not entertain unnecessary actions against innocent teachers and Principals by the CS and TSC.
