Sossion declines ODMs Parliament nomination

The Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary General Wilson Sossion will not take up his nomination for member of the 12th National Assembly through Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Party.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly-elected Baringo County Governor, Stanley Kiptis, Sossion said his decision to withdraw from the ODM nomination list came after mutual agreement with the party leader over his current engagements as Education International Africa (EI Africa) President.

The KNUT boss said his hands are full as EI Africa president as he will spend most of his time abroad tackling EI programmes, especially in Somalia and Eritrea where teachers’ unions are under threat.

Circulating reports however indicate that ODM was on a bid to replace the KNUT Secretary General with former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, who lost his seat to Jubilee Party’s Joyce Laboso in the just-concluded election.

Sossion campaigned for Raila Odinga as the NASA presidential candidate and was top on the list of those to be nominated by ODM to represent the opposition party in the national Assembly.

The remaining nominees are Seth Kakusye Mutua to represent Women and Khadija Hussein to represent the youth.

Former Migori Women Representative, Denitah Ghati – who will represent Persons with Disability (PWD).

In the Senate, the Raila Odinga-led party has nominated Beatrice Kwamboka Makori, Masitsa Ndombi Shiyonga, Rebecca Lowoiya, Fatuma Abdi Jehow and Harold Kimuge Kipchumba.

The nominees are however yet to be gazetted by the Independent Boundaries Electoral Commission.
