Sossion, Nzili re-elected KNUT heads unopposed
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion and Chairman Mudzo Nzili have been re-elected unopposed to the union’s National Steering Committee at Kasarani Gymnasium in Nairobi.
The KNUT top officials including the entire National Steering Committee members retained their seats after they were unopposed in the elections.
The KNUT steering committee officials will now serve for another term of 5 years.
The KNUT elections took a political twist after teachers present claimed that the KANU government treated teachers better than the Jubilee Government saying the current regime has refused to award them a pay rise.
Mid last month, KNUT issued a two-week ultimatum to the government to ensure that it pays teachers a 50%-60% salary increase.
KNUT Chairman Mudzo Nzili said that if the government fails to do so by February 27th, teachers across the country would down their tools.
In December 2015, teachers moved to the Supreme Court seeking a review of the ruling by the same court on their 50% to 60% pay rise case.
