Speaker defends Ksh.245K seats for Kisumu county assembly

Kisumu County Assembly Speaker Onyango Oloo has defended the Ksh.11.5million meant for the purchase of furniture.

This comes after public uproar over the quality of the seats with reports that each will cost Ksh.245,000.

According to Oloo, the MCAs, Speaker, Clerk, Senator and Governor are all to get new chairs in the Assembly.

Speaking to the Press in Kisumu, Oloo said the Assembly furniture was procured by the previous regime after a contract was awarded to Kodiaga Main Prison.

He added that Kodiaga is expected to deliver the rest of consignment in the coming days but had brought a few unfinished pieces for final feedback.

This he said was to enable electricians instal communication gadgets within the Assembly.

Oloo further reterated that the procurement was a government to government arrangement and ruled out any mischief in the pricing of the furniture.

On Wednesday, pictures of the unfinished seats went viral on social media sparking criticism over the alleged poor workmanship.
