Special DCI team to probe Kitengela abduction, murder case

Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai,has directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to form a special team to investigate the alleged kidnapping and murder of four men in Kitengela nine days ago.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony of the direct entry cadet inspectors course at the National Police College in Kiganjo on Friday, IG Mutyambai said the team had been formed and had begun working.

This morning, I directed the DCI homicide team to investigate this matter in order to get to the bottom of it.” “The team has already begun its work,” said IG Mutyambai.

The team will be expected to report to the IG on the entire matter within a month.

His statement comes amid growing speculation about how the four men vanished shortly after meeting for lunch at a pub in Kitengela.

The family of Jack Onyango, who is among those reported missing, said on Friday that the body discovered in the Mathioya river on Thursday was not Onyango’s.

Three bodies had been found as of Wednesday, according to the officers in charge of the investigation.

They said that a third body was discovered in a river by sandharvesters, and that it was believed to be Mr. Onyango’s.

The body, which lacked upper limbs, was taken to the Murang’a county morgue.

About a week ago, a body said to be that of Elijah Obuong was found in river Mukungai which is just a few metres away from river Mathioya,and taken to the same morgue.

Members of the family made a visit to the morgue but declined to talk to the media.

A body suspected to be that of Benjamin Imbai was discovered in Kieni forest, Gatundu North constituency, in the neighboring Kiambu county. The body was taken to the Kago Road General Funeral Home.

The whereabouts of Brian Oduor, the group’s fourth member, are currently unknown.

The quartet’s car, a white Toyota Mark X, was discovered abandoned the next day in a parking lot about 500 meters from the club and towed to the nearest police station while inquiries were ongoing.

Speculation about their business dealings continues to grow but police sources have refused to divulge any information on the day to day activies of the group.

Family members of the missing quartet refused to speak to Citizen TV.
