Special Security Unit Formed In Mombasa

Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa said that the special unit will help in ensuring security for all Kenyans is guaranteed during and after the Easter holiday celebrations.

Marwa said that security patrols will be stepped up in Mombasa to ensure cases of insecurity and indiscipline are contained.

The security operation will be conducted jointly by officers drawn from the prisons department, the General Service Unit (GSU), the National Police Service, the National Intelligence Service (NIS), and the Kenya wildlife Service (KWS) among other security agencies.

Security will not be compromised

Mr. Marwa said that patrols and thorough searches will also be conducted in key areas including the Moi International Airport, Likoni Ferry channel, hotels, churches, malls, beaches and other major facilities in the coastal city.

He assured local and international tourists visiting the county that security will not be compromised and therefore no cause for alarm.

At the same time, Marwa confirmed the arrest of a Ugandan woman identified as Sylvia Waweza who allegedly tried to sneak over 100 rolls of bhang into Shimo La Tewa prison on Thursday.

The statement by Marwa comes at a time when security operations in the country have been increased following a travel advisory by the Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO) that has put several areas in the country under alert.
