Special sitting to debate removal of Kithure Kindiki as Deputy Speaker set for Friday

Senators have been called for a Special sitting on Friday to debate the motion for the removal of Kindiki as Deputy Speaker.

Under Gazette notice No. 3649, Speaker Kenneth Lusaka said the business specified shall be the only one before the Senate during the Special Sitting.

“Notice is given to all Senators that pursuant to standing order 30 of the Senate Standing Orders, on the request of the Senate Majority Leader, and with the support of requisite number of senators, I have appointed Friday, 22nd May, 2020 as a day for a Special Sitting of the Senate,” the notice reads.

The Special Sitting is to be held in the Senate Chamber at 2.30 p.m. until conclusion of the business of the day.

After the sitting, the Senate will be adjourned until May 26, 2020.

Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kangata confirmed that the Jubilee party will be seeking Kindiki’s ouster after he skipped the Parliamentary Group meeting at State House last week.

Uasin Gishu Senator Margret Kamar could be set to replace Kindiki as Deputy Speaker for the Senate.

The Jubilee party also plans to remove Nandi Senator Samson Cherargey as the chairperson of the Senate Legal Affairs committee; Laikipia Senator John Kinyua as chairperson of the Senate Devolution Committee and Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga from the powerful Senate Public Accounts Committee.

Mandera Senator Mohamed Mohamud (chairperson of the crucial Finance Committee of the Senate) is also on the chopping board.

Citizen TV has learnt that their recall letters are ready for presentation to Speaker Kenneth Lusaka on Monday next week.
