Sports CS Hassan Wario sued by ex-wife over maintenance

Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Hassan Wario has been sued by his estranged wife Kaltum Dima Guyo over maintenance.

Ms Kaltum Dima Guyo wants the court to order the CS to pay her a maintenance fee of 400,000 shillings per month.

She is seeking 150,000 shillings as house rent, 50,000 shillings food expenses, 50,000 shillings medical expenses, 50,000 shillings entertainment allowance, 25,000 shillings utility bills fee, 40,000 shillings for transport and 35,000 shillings for grooming.

According to the court document, she argued that they were childhood friends and got married in September 1997 adding that she played a vital role in Wario by paying his college fees.

Guyo admits that the marriage did not bear any children.

Through lawyer John Khaminwa, the petitioner said she resigned from the Kenya Tourist Development Corporation and joined Wario in the United Kingdom where they stayed together in a flat in the city of Norwich.

“It was as a result of the increased income that I was able to obtain that we were able to live a suitable life to enable Wario have a conducive atmosphere to enable him finish his studies,” she argues.

However, in the year 2012 May the two were granted a divorce by the superior court in England.

“As a result of strain in our relationships and the constant trips sometimes outside the United Kingdom made by the respondent without my knowledge and the knowledge that I had of Wario’s infidelity, I instructed my lawyers to commence divorce proceedings against Wario,” she said.

She has accused CS of being selfish claiming that Wario refused to assist her in achieving her dream of studying law and obtaining a law degree.

High Court Judge Isaac Lenaola directed that the case be heard before a family court.
