SRC begins job evaluation in Nandi

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has started the staff auditing process in Nandi County to help seal gaps in staffing in the county government and assembly.

Speaking to employees in Kapsabet town, SRC commissioner Isaiah Kubai said that the exercise is part of a countrywide job evaluation whose purpose is to determine the job worth of each public sector employee and come up with institutional grading structures.

Kubai added that the remuneration for each grade shall be determined by the pay structure developed through the salary benchmarking exercise and is expected to solve the delay of salaries in the counties and alleviate teething problems resulting from inadequate human resources and skills.

The commissioner pointed out that the evaluation of county employees will cover job disparities as well as unequal remuneration and other benefits a factor that is common at the moment where people in similar jobs are earning different salaries, a disparity which was inherited from defunct local authorities and national government.

The  first phase of job evaluation in seven counties has already been accomplished and will see the entire exercise completed next year.
