Standard 6 pupil electrocuted in fathers farm

A Standard six pupil in Migori County was on Wednesday electrocuted while crossing her father’s farm where a live electricity cable was left exposed.

The girl, who was identified as Beatrice Auma Omondi from Ngope Academy in Rongo, was crossing the farm when she stepped on the live cable and was killed on the spot.

Rongo OCPD Mr Kisaka who confirmed the incident said police have launched investigations into the matter.

“We have established that the illegal connection was done by the girl’s father who disappeared after getting information about the demise of his daughter and we are looking for him,” Kisaka said.

The father allegedly ran off for fear that he would be apprehended for the illegal power connection.

The OCPD said cases of illegal connections were rampant in North and South Kamagambo areas in Rongo Sub County, urging the Kenya Power Company to take necessary action.

“Kenya Power should do something about these rising cases of electrocution. We will lose more lives if drastic measures are not taken,” he said.

He also urged the people from North and South Kamagambo to desist from illegal power connections saying that they are endangering the lives of their own family members.

Rongo Sub County has had several cases of electrocution linked to illegal power connection since the beginning of this year.

The deceased’s body was taken to Rosewood Mortuary in Rongo.
