Standard One pupil suspended for making noise in class

A Standard One pupil at Bondo Kosiemo Primary School in Nyatike Sub County, Migori County was allegedly slapped with a week-long suspension for making noise in class.

The pupil’s father, Mr Charles Arwa Okumu, said he found out that his daughter had been suspended when he went to school to inquire about her after she went missing for two days.

Mr Arwa said they had a meeting with the school’s head teacher and the teacher that sent the pupil home and they agreed that the teacher was to look for the pupil and hand her to him; fortunately he found her in a home near the school.

Mr Okumu said it was unfortunate that Standard One pupils can be sent home for making noise in class, adding that the school ought to have informed him through a letter before sending her home.

The school’s head teacher, Mr Basil Odero, however denied the claims, saying the pupil had been sent home to bring a parent so that they can discuss the pupil’s behaviour.

Mr Odero added that the pupil was notorious at making noise and interrupting learning in the class.
