State House urges manufacturers to lower prices of commodities

State House has appealed to manufacturers to do more to lower the cost of commodities due to lower energy costs.

Speaking during a press briefing on Sunday, State House Spokesman Manoah Esipisu indicated that the cost of commercial energy has gone down drastically in the last three years but this has not been reflected in the cost of commodities.

Esipisu urged private sector players to transfer benefits of government lowering of power costs to consumers to ease the effects of the rising cost of living.

Similarly, he said 14,000 schools have been connected to power in the last year, bringing the number of schools connected up to 23,000, with Sh30 billion invested in upgrading power generation.

Esipisu added that views collected during last week’s State House Energy Summit and from the public will be considered as President Uhuru Kenyatta seeks to make electricity more affordable.
