State opposes release of three drug trafficking suspects

State prosecutor has opposed the release of two Tanzanians and a Kenyan charged with trafficking more than three kilograms of heroin with a market value of Ksh 11.6 million.

The Tanzanians; Salim Said Nassoro and Umma Salim, believed to be a couple, were arrested at Mlolongo in Machakos County on September 2 en route to Nairobi from Arusha while their co-accused, Elizabeth Njoki Wairimu, was nabbed in Nairobi.

The ‘couple’ was found with 3,895.3 grams of heroin in the vehicle they were traveling in .

The court was told that evidence gathered against the trio reveals that the accused are involved in the illegal narcotics trade.

State counsel, Duncan Ondimu, told Nairobi Chief Magistrate, Daniel Ogembo, that the accused have other associates who are still at large and are likely to jeopardize operations if released on bail.

The three have pleaded not guilty to the charges. The hearing of the case has been postponed to a later date.
