State wants more time to probe journalist Walter Menya

The prosecution has asked the court to give it two weeks to complete investigations against journalist Walter Menya.

The prosecution told the court that they are yet to complete its analysis on Menya’s clothes, phone and laptop that are still being held.

Through state counsel Daniel Karori, a decision on whether to charge Menya or not has not been made.

However, the defense objected to the application.

Menya, through his lawyer Nelson Havi, asked the court to dismiss the miscellaneous application against him.

Havi said that the prosecution are illegally holding Menya’s laptop, phone and other items.

“We are asking the court to strike out the application and let the state return the items,” argued Havi.

The court was told that if charges will be pressed against the journalist, then the same items will be used exhibits and ordering the return of the items will prejudice the investigations.

“We humbly pray that we conduct analysis of the items and within two weeks we shall report to the court,” the prosecution said.

The matter will be Mention on July 3, 2017.
