Step aside, I won fair and square Wa Iria tells Kamau
Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria has defended his Jubilee Party primaries win, refuting competitor Jamleck Kamau’s claims that a fake voter’s list was used in the exercise.
Wa Iria – who garnered 205, 941 votes against Kamau’s 118, 274 in the nominations exercise – insisted that he is the bona fide winner of the poll.
“I attained an excess of 87, 274 votes to those of Jameleck Kamau. It has not been shown that the alleged malpractices would have had the effect of altering the will of the people or the final outcome of the nominations,” Wa Iria sad.
The two are eyeing Muranga County’s top seat.
Kamau had lost in his first petition presented to the Jubilee Party Appeals Board. He now wants fresh elections since he believes that the party used an incorrect register to conduct the nominations.
Kamau defended his case by saying the register had only 119,838 voters, which does not tally with the results announced.
Wa Iria and Kamau will know their Friday, when the tribunal rules on their case.
