Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has come out to refute allegations that he has ditched Wiper Party, saying that he stands firmly behind the party.

Speaking Friday, Muthama said that is still a member of Wiper, pointing out that he has even secured a ticket to fly the party’s flag in the gubernatorial race.

Muthama had earlier accused Wiper for running unfair party primaries and favouring newcomers over individuals who had stood with the party over the years – factors that, he said, could see him leave the party.

Muthama is now singing a different tune.

“I am not leaving Wiper, (and) when I choose to leave I will leave with all my assets. I had gotten a ticket to stand but chose to join those crying. I am a staunch Wiper follower. If Mutua or Wavinya will be the Machakos governor, I have no right to be the governor,” Muthama said.

Muthama had also blamed party leader Kalonzo of meddling with the party primaries to ensure that his favourites got nomination certificates.

This stance, too, seems to have changed as Muthama Friday stated that his issue was with the exercise and not Kalonzo.

“I can’t accuse Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka. I am not just contented with how the primaries were conducted,” said Muthama.

Expressing confidence that the National Super Alliance will win the presidential race come August 8, Muthama took a swipe at Jubilee Party number two man, William Ruto.

Muthama raised questions about Ruto’s integrity, saying that the Deputy President had been linked to several land grabbing cases.

He cautioned Ruto against accusing NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo.

“Everywhere he stands he accuses two people. Raila and Kalonzo forgetting Kenyans are 40 million not two people. He forgets his own actions,” said Muthama.

Muthama’s remarks come days after Ruto, in an interview with Citizen TV’s Anne Kiguta, said that Jubilee will win 70-30 in the August 8 General Election.
