Stolen high-end cars returned to U.K. from Kenya

Several high-end cars from the United Kingdom worth over £1million (Ksh.133million) that were stolen from UK have been returned.

A statement from the British High Commission on Friday said government agencies from both the countries have been trailing the cars since March this year.

“Together, we have intercepted and seized 21 high-end UK stolen vehicles worth over £1million (Ksh.13million,” the U.K. envoy to Kenya Jane Marriot said.

All of these vehicles have been reported stolen by their owners in the U.K.

Out of the 21, four have already been returned to the United Kingdom.

They include a black Range Rover Vogue Autobiography, a black Range Rover Sport, a white Mercedes Benz GLE and a black Range Rover Sports Autobiography.

The operation involved the British National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (NaVCIS), Interpol, National Crime Agency and local British police from various sea ports around London.

They worked with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Interpol Kenya and Kenya Ports Authority to identify and seize suspect vehicles that were coming in through the Mombasa port.

The vehicles were said to destined for various countries in East Africa.

On September 26 this year, six high-end vehicles reported to have been stolen and smuggled into Kenya were impounded.

The three Range Rovers and three Mercedes Benz vehicles had been reported as stolen in South Africa and the U.K.
