Stop cheap politics and insults, Ruto says after Tobiko called him a clerk

Deputy President William Ruto has urged civil servants to stop politicking and focus on implementing the Jubilee administration’s development agenda.

He said civil servants should focus on fulfilling the pledges the Party made to Kenyans during the last General election.

“I urge those of us who got the opportunity to serve at different levels in Government to stop cheap politics; let us put aside our pride, show humility while discharging our duties and stop hurling insults to each other,” he said.

Dr Ruto asked civil servants interested in pursuing elective positions that this was not the right time to do so.

He spoke during a church service at Anglican Church of Kenya St Paul’s Athi River in Machakos County.

He was accompanied by MPs Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), Victor Munyaka (Machakos), Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu), Rahab Mukami (Woman Rep, Nyeri) and former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama.

Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko on Friday blasted the deputy president, calling him a mere clerk.

“The deputy president should be the clerk of the president,” said Tobiko adding that “and the way I respect the President as his clerk, even the deputy president and Murkomen should respect the President.

CS Tobiko and his Cabinet colleagues Fred Matiang’i and Mutahi Kagwe had fired the first salvo on Thursday.

They bashed DP Ruto for hosting delegations at his Karen residence, ostensibly, to marshal his numbers ahead of the 2022 State House succession race.

Ruto’s allies have accused the president of letting loose some Cabinet Secretaries and senior government officials to undermine his deputy.

“Without the blessings of the President these idiotic CSs would never have insulted the DP. William Ruto is not anyone’s clerk, he was jointly elected with the President and without him Uhuru would not be President and Tobiko would never be a clerk. In a working state Tobiko would be sacked,” tweeted Murkomen.

This even as the DP is seemingly reduced to an outsider in the government he helped establish in 2013 and 2017.
