Stop inciting people to call for my resignation, Nkaissery tells Raila

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has warned Coalitions for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader Raila Odinga against inciting the Law Society of Kenya and the public to have him resign over the rising cases of extra-judicial killings.

Nkaissery says he will not step aside unless requested to do so by his appointing authority, President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“I cannot resign because somebody just want me to resign; I will remain in office until the person who gave me the job tells me to resign,” he said.

The CS has absolved himself of blame over cases of rogue police officers, adding that he has ordered the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to take action over undisciplined officers.

“We already know that action has already been taken against the officers involved, the case is in court. Therefore, I don’t see the reason for politician bickering and calls for my resignation. I have played my part as a Cabinet Secretary and the rest is left with the court.” Nkaissery

This comes following mounting pressure by lawyers and civil society for the police to get to the bottom of the killing of lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and driver Joseph Muiruri.

The lawyer and the driver were laid to rest yesterday, with the client expected to be laid to rest tomorrow, Monday in Tharaka.
