Stop intimidating IEBC Kiraitu, Linturi tell NASA

Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi and Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi have warned the Opposition against ‘intimidating’ the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in a bid to gain political mileage.

Kiraitu and Linturi faulted the Opposition for trying to arm-twist the poll body by issuing ultimatums – this sentiment coming weeks after the National Super Alliance (NASA) vowed to sit out the August 8 General Election if IEBC succeeds in its bid to overturn a ruling on presidential tallying.

Kiraitu argued that the Opposition’s objections are mere diversionary tactics aimed at masking NASA’s unpreparedness.

“The Opposition is not prepared for the August polls and they want to make Kenyans feel IEBC is not prepared to conduct free and fair elections. They know that Jubilee will win again,” said Kiraitu.

According to the two, IEBC is an independent body that should be left to make its decisions without any interference – be it from the Government or Opposition.

On his part, Linturi said that the Raila Odinga-led outfit is looking for people to blame for their imminent August 8 loss.

“We will not accept intimidation of any kind as NASA is panicking since they know they will lose and that’s why they are looking for scapegoats,” said Linturi.

The leaders were speaking during a campaign rally at Kibirichia market in Buuri Sub County.
