Stop killing our young girls, Raila says as he demands speedy investigations

Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga has condemned the growing trend of killings that seems particularly targeted at women asking authorities to bring the killers to book.

While calling for the killers of Sharon Otieno – whose lifeless body was found in Kodera Forest, Homa Bay County – to be punished, the opposition head also asked for the killings to stop.

Another murder that overshadowed the death of Sharon was that of Monica Kimani who was found with her throat slit two weeks ago inside her apartment in Kilimani, Nairobi.

Three suspects have since been arrested over her brutal murder.

“We condemn violent murder of innocent Kenyans. We have seen very bizarre kind of killings all over the country. We have seen a lot of violence meted on particularly the young girls in our country,” Mr. Odinga said in a political rally in Migori.

“We want security forces to act with speed to bring this kind of growing sector of crimes to an end.”

Mr. Odinga did not shy away from bringing up Sharon’s murder that has seen Migori Governor Okoth Obado and three others arrested and detained.

“We want those who are guilty, those responsible for the brutal murders of so many of our girls to be brought to book. We are saying this from the Capital of Migori County and because we know what has happened in Migori Country. We have said that we don’t know who are responsible for the death of the girl Sharon,” Mr Odinga told his audience as he campaigned for Ochillo Oyacko in the Tuesday senatorial by-election.
