Stop Narok killings, church and teachers union plead

The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) and the national teachers union have urged the government to find a quick solution to the Narok killings.

Five people were killed in an incident that also led to the closure of 10 schools in the county as a result of the chaos.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT)  has called on the government to settle the clashes saying the national examinations scheduled to start next month could be affected.

ACK Arch-Bishop Jackson Ole Sapit also condemned the killings and called for an end to the fighting.

Speaking at ACK St. Andrews Church Simenya  Ugunja sub-county, ole Sapit pleaded with the warring communities to stop the bloodshed and forceful evictions.

“The government should arrest the perpetrators so peace will prevail,” he said.

Two days ago, a 13-year-old boy was killed and two other people left nursing serious injuries in fresh attacks at Mau border-line in Narok.

A boy aged 12 years and an elderly woman sustained deep machete cuts following the attacks at Esimenwa village of Olmekenyu, Narok south.

Similarly on Monday last week, one person was killed and seven others, among them a police officer, injured after rival traders clashed in Narok town.
