Street boys beat up man, demand Ksh.10,000 Christmas gift

A 23-year-old man from Kandongu village in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, is nursing injuries at home after he was beaten by Ngurubani street boys on Christmas day.

The street boys were allegedly demanding Ksh.10,000 “Christmas money” from the helpless man when the attack happened.

David Muriithi Wachira was rushed to Kimbimbi sub-county hospital after the street boys had blocked earlier attempts to have him treated at Ngurubani private hospital.

“The street boys accosted and beat me up. I managed to escape and ran to the police officers who said they could not help me or even touch me because I was bleeding all over. I rushed to the hospital where I was treated but, on coming back back, I found the street boys waiting for me and they beat me again,” said Mr. Muriithi.

He further added; “They were claiming I had beaten a friend of theirs yet I hadn’t. They then demanded for Ksh.10,000 from me which I didn’t have.”

Muriithi’s father Nahashon Wachira is demanding for the arrest of the street boys.

“Despite the police admitting that the group of street boys had already beaten up many residents of the area, no action had still been taken against them. So my question is whether this country only belongs to the rich and not the meek like us,” said Mr. Wachira.

Mwea East OCPD Kizito Mutoro while confirming the incident, said investigations have already been launched and action will be taken against the street boys.
