Student dead, another injured after Machakos school pit latrine caves in

A student at Muisuni High School in Kangundo, Machakos County, was Sunday evening killed and another injured after the institution’s pit latrine caved in.

Confirming the incident, Muisuni High School Director Robert Thyaka said the latrine collapsed due to heavy rains witnessed in the area in recent times.

Area residents rushed to the school and helped in the rescue mission before police officers from Kangundo and the county fire brigade team joined in.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Kangundo OCPD Benjamin Ongombe said the body of the deceased has since been transferred to the Kangundo Hospital mortuary.

The injured student was also taken to the same hospital for treatment before later being transferred to a Machakos hospital for CT scan albeit in stable condition.
